Residents of Delhi woke up to hot and humid weather on Sunday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow for the day, forecasting “generally cloudy skies” today with hot and humid conditions at isolated places and light showers. After days of drought, Delhiites can finally brace themselves for a respite from intense humidity as atmospheric conditions indicate another 4 days of wet spell.
In its latest weather report, the Met Office predicted: “A spell of very light to light rain accompanied by thunder/lightning in isolated places with strong surface winds (20-30 gusts to 40km/h) in the afternoon/evening.
To beat the heat, the IMD advised residents to avoid the heat, wear light, light, loose cotton clothing, cover their heads, use a cloth, hat or umbrella when going outside.
Today’s temperature in Delhi
The maximum temperature over Delhi is expected to be 1.6°C to 3.0°C above normal around 35°C to 37°C, while the minimum temperature is most likely to settle in the range of 28°C to 30°C, 1.6°C to 3.0°C above normal. According to the IMD report issued at 9:15 am, no major change in maximum temperatures is likely during the next 24 hours, after which a drop of 3-5°C is possible.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Delhi and neighboring states in the next three days. Forecasting active monsoon conditions over northwest, east and northeast India this week, the IMD said: “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during July 18-21 and July 23; Himachal Pradesh on July 18, during July 3-21 during July 30-22; Uttarakhand during 19-20 July and during 22-24 July Haryana & Punjab on 19 July & West Uttar Pradesh during 24-24 July;
Many stations in Delhi recorded around 40% humidity at 10:24 am and places like Mandi Marg were up to 80%. The New Delhi area recorded 68% humidity with a temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius. In the last month, Delhi recorded 41.8 mm of rainfall, which is a 44 percent deficit and a deviation of 32.3 mm from the normal range.

At 9:00 am, the city recorded an air quality index (AQI) value of 176 with air quality falling under the ‘moderate’ category, according to Sameer App of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Notably, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 to 100 as “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 as “moderate”, 201 to 300 as “poor”, 301 to 400 as “very poor” and 401 to 500 to measure CPe’s parameters always according to CPe’
