Stone laid for construction work worth ₹3.02 crore in Vijayawada

Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Saturday laid the foundation stone for comprehensive road development work worth ₹ 3.02 crore at Bharathi Nagar and Guru Nanak Colony as part of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) air quality improvement programme.

The projects, funded under the Air Quality Improvement Program of the 15th Finance Commission, are aimed at improving urban infrastructure while simultaneously reducing dust pollution and improving air quality in the city.

The Minister was accompanied by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, East Assembly Constituency MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, VMC Commissioner D. Chandrasekhar, civic leaders and local leaders.

Mr. Ram Mohan said the Center was committed to creating high-quality urban infrastructure across the country and these projects would provide better roads, safer pedestrian facilities and help reduce dust pollution in Vijayawada.

As part of the work, a 650 meter long and 14 meter wide BT hot mix road will be laid at Bharathi Nagar in 4th Division at an estimated cost of ₹ 1.10 crore. The project envisages the construction of 1.20 meter wide pavements made of cobblestones on both sides of the road wherever space allows.

Another project involves the construction of a cement concrete road and flagstone pavements along the 690-metre Fun Times Road, connecting Guru Nanak Colony Road to Panta Kaluva Road in Division 10, at an estimated cost of ₹1.92 crore.

Mr. Kesineni Sivanath said that the Government of Andhra Pradesh prioritized strengthening of civic infrastructure through effective utilization of central funds. He said the projects will improve road quality, sanitation, public safety and overall urban mobility while contributing to a cleaner environment.

Mr. Gadde Rammohan Rao said that the officials have been directed to ensure that all the work is done within the stipulated time frame and in accordance with the prescribed quality standards. He said every effort would be made to minimize inconvenience to residents during construction and complete the projects expeditiously.

VMC Commissioner D. Chandrasekhar said the civic body has adopted a comprehensive strategy to improve the urban environment of Vijayawada through construction of end-to-end roads, vertical gardens, avenue plantations, roadside greenery and fountains at major traffic junctions.

AP State Kummari Salivahana Welfare Development Corporation Chairman Eswar, VMC Chief Engineer P. Satyakumari, Superintending Engineers Chandrasekhar and Dushyant, Executive Engineer (in-charge) Rama Rao, Deputy and Assistant Engineers, local public representatives and residents were among those present.
