Palm Beach, FLA.
Kelce, the future Hall of Fame Tight end, reported that he retired less than a week after the disappointment of Kansas City chiefs for Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl Lix.
“I just wanted him to put it there and not me,” Reid said on Monday. “I always like the boys to retreat (after the season), but he wants to go back and also trains like a fool.”
Before what could be the last season of Kelce’s famous career, Reid said at NFL owners’ meetings that chiefs plan to find better ways to support him in the structure of their crimes. Last season, Kelce (35) was forced to carry a lot of crimes along with Quarterback Patrick Mahomes after Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown and Isiah Pacheco’s running suffered significant injuries. Kelce led chiefs with 133 goals, but his 823 reception yards and three landings were a career minimum.
Reid acknowledged that one way to control the effectiveness of Kelce is to play less than 940 films (84 percent of crimes) that he had last season, even though he likes to take every strike and practical representative.
“I’ll see when they come back and see where it is,” Reid said. “He learns when to come out when he needs it.”
“We came across positions (receivers), so it doesn’t help the cause of a firm end at all. The healthier we can be around it can still be productive.”
Kelce finished Super Bowl Lix with four receptions on six targets of 39 yards. It was the first time in his career that he was held without a reception in the first half of the postseason game. Mahomes never got into the rhythm against the eagles. The defense of Philadelphia dominated the Scrimmage line and took advantage of the greatest weakness of the chiefs: the offensive line. The four -member Eagles pass has created 16 pressures and threw Mahomes six times, most in his career.
Two days after the loss, Kelka revealed the “New Heights” podcast, which co -organized with her brother and the former Eagles Center Jason Kelce that he is considering retirement. At the beginning of March, however, Kelce explained his reasons for returning to the upcoming season.
“The biggest thing is that I – I like to play a football game,” Kelce said on his podcast. “I still feel like I could play a high level – and maybe at a higher level than last year. I don’t think it was my best trip.
“I want to give it a good run. I have a bad taste in my mouth about how I ended the year and how I was for the people around me.”

This offseason, chiefs again signed Brown on a one -year contract. The agreement ensured that the first three wide team receivers – Brown, Rice and Xavier Worthy – get a chance to play together in 2025, which should help Kelce more space in the middle of the field. At the end of this month, the chiefs could also choose a receiver or a fixed end in the NFL design, someone who would have a chance to learn from Kelka.
“I’m so excited to come back,” said club owner Clark Hunt about Kelka. “I think deep down, (CEO) Brett (VAACH), with Andy and I felt as if returning. He loves the game, loves his teammates, and I know that Reid coach is excited to have his energy back in the building at least one year.”
“He won’t tell us which year will be his last year. He was an important part of the success we had in the last seven years. It is already the Hall of Fame and has special chemistry with Patrick. I think, like every year, it will be fun to see that the two will work again on their magic.”
Mahomes back to work
Much before the Offseason Chiefs program, which will start at the end of this month, Mahomes already looks different. At the end of February, Mahomes appeared on the home men’s basketball game for Texas Tech, his alma mater, with a new cut, and cut Mohawk in favor of a short, more mature drop of the drop.
Mahomes also looks different in the gym. The last few years have been known for his father – a crazy middle part to go with defined muscles in his arms and feet – he shortened down and after several training sessions she shed pounds with Bobby Stroupe, his long -term performance in Tyler in Texas.
“He will come back even better than him – and that’s a great thing about him,” Reid said about Mahomes. “In your career you always work your game against these brilliant defensive coordinators. Work is never done.
“As far as the hairstyle is concerned, he said he would do it in the last two years. It’s not like he’s just done because of the Super Bowl.”

Mahomes, which will become 30. In September, is 13. The highest Quarterback League, tied to Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons) with an average salary of $ 45 million. But Hunt said on Monday that the chiefs did not plan to re -regulate their contract. In September 2023, the bosses restructured and paid $ 210.6 million over the next four seasons. At that time it was most in the history of NFL in four years.
“We upgraded his agreement within his original ten -year extension,” Hunt said. “It really introduced a system that I don’t see a change for several years.”
Hunt is pleased to keep Smith, Bolton
The best two chiefs two movements in this offseason, according to Hunt, were a veach that retained the right guard Trey Smith and Linebacker Nick Bolton.
Before the new year of the league, the chiefs built a franchise brand on Smith, which prevented him to become a free agent and guarantee him an annual salary of $ 23.4 million. A few weeks later, the chiefs signed Bolton for a three -year agreement of $ 45 million, including $ 30 million.
On Monday, Hunt acknowledged that the increase in league salary ceiling to $ 279.2 million helped the chiefs to achieve one of their largest missions. The chiefs worked under the belief that the salary limit would be around $ 270 million.
“We are pleased that we both had with us in 2025 – and hopefully for a long time this season,” Hunt said about Smith and Bolton.

Smith, protector Prosi Bowl, who was included in the second best agent Athletic“Top 150, the most sought -after offensive Linman with a free agent would be the most sought after this spring.”
Smith, known for his athletics and durability, started 80 out of 81 games, including play -off. He was dominant in a running game and improved in the protection of the Mahomes Pass. Last season Smith played 655 passes and did not allow the bag.
“In the end, I can only focus on exercise and training,” Smith said last week on “UP & Adams” with host Kay Adams. “I love Kansas City, it’s my home and I love chiefs. Fans in Kansas City are some of the best people I’ve ever been. I would like to stay there. That’s my plan.”
It is assumed that Smith will control a four -year contract by $ 86 million, including $ 52.5 million, according to Football Focus. Chiefs could sign him on a five -year agreement with at least $ 50 million, which would be the most for the guard at all. The team prefers a five -year agreement because it would be better to spread money over the years and at the same time reflect that the ceiling of the salary will continue to increase.
Smith is a lonely player in the league, who is still on the franchise mark. The deadline for him and the team that agrees to extend the contract is 15:00 CT 15 July. Hunt is convinced that the chiefs will sign Smith on the extension.
“Our desire and I also believe that Trey is to develop a long -term business,” Hunt said. “We want to do it before the term.”
