High-level meeting to review rain deficit in Karimnagar on Sunday amid El Nino fears

With the erstwhile Karimnagar district reeling under a normal monsoon and prolonged dry spell, a high-level assessment meeting was convened in Karimnagar on Sunday (July 19) to take stock of the situation and prepare contingency plans amid fears of El Nino.

The water level in the Lower-Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar has dropped to 5.57 tmc ft against its full capacity of 24 tmc ft.

In Rajanna Sircilla district, Mid-Manair dam is holding 7.44 tmc of water against full capacity of 27.55 tmc while Upper Manair dam has 0.612 tmc ft against full capacity of 2 tmc ft, according to official sources.

Agriculture Minister and District In-charge Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao will chair the review meeting which will be attended by Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar.

The meeting will focus on emergency measures and recommendations for farmers to deal with the impact of lack of rainfall.
