At least five schoolgirls fall unconscious after PNG pipeline gas leak in Bihar

Five schoolgirls fell unconscious in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Friday (July 17, 2026) after gas leaked from a PNG pipeline that was damaged during drainage construction work, an official said.

The incident took place in Rohua village under Musahri block.

“The gas leaked after damage to the pipeline. Five schoolgirls fell unconscious after inhaling it,” said SDM (East) Anand Utsav.

“All the five girls were initially taken to the nearby primary health centre. Four of them regained consciousness while one was facing minor medical complications. As a precautionary measure, all were then referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital,” Mr Utsav said.

Three of them are studying in Class 9, one in Class 10 and another in Class 11, Principal In-Charge Someshwar Prasad told reporters.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, the SDM added.
