Ball hits glove, umpire gives LBW: Nepal captain loses cool after shocking call – Watch
Nepal men’s team captain Rohit Paudel was involved in a controversial dismissal during Nepal’s ICC Cricket World Cup League Two match against the USA at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground on Friday. The Nepal captain was given LBW off Milind Kumar on the last ball of the 38th over, although records appeared to show that the ball hit his gloves as he attempted a sweep.Paudel was batting on 46 at the time, with Nepal placed strongly at 194/2 and looking set for a big total. The ball rolled toward the goalie after it appeared to be on the edge of his glove, but the U.S. players appealed and the referee raised his finger almost immediately. The records showed that the ball hit the glove rather than the pads.Paudel reacted angrily after the decision. He motioned to the umpire to indicate that the ball had touched either his bat or his glove. As he walked back to the pavilion, he swung the bat in frustration and later hit her as well.Typically, players can face a Level 1 or Level 2 Code of Conduct charge for visible displays of frustration such as swearing, throwing equipment or hitting objects on the field. It is not yet clear whether any action will be taken against Paudel.Despite this controversy, Nepal recovered to score 317/8 in the first innings before bowling USA out for 195 to win the match by 122 runs.Paudel is currently the captain of Nepal and also led the team in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Nepal came close to defeating the English cricket team during the tournament before losing by four runs at the Wankhede Stadium.Speaking during the T20 World Cup, Paudel called for more opportunities against cricket’s major nations.“If we get a chance to play them (Test-playing nations) regularly, maybe in a year, I wouldn’t even say 6-7 series, but at least one or two series to test ourselves, it would be very good. I hope that will change after this World Cup,” he said.Paudel also said that it would be important for Nepalese cricket if teams like Australian national cricket team, England cricket team or Indian national cricket team tour Nepal.“It will mean a lot, especially if Australia or England team comes to Nepal,” he said.
