The Vellore Institute Technology (VIT) receives the first installment of an endowment fund of ₹ 50,000 for its student innovation programs from 0 Why Not Technologies, a Bengaluru-based technology company.

According to a press release, the fund will help support innovation, entrepreneurship and startups among students. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in March for this purpose, aims to nurture student innovators by providing financial assistance, mentorship and industry support to turn ideas into successful businesses.

The tech firm also plans to set up an endowment fund of ₹45 crore over the next five years. Such an effort will make it one of the largest industry-backed innovation initiatives for students in the country.

The first installment of ₹ 50 lakh was introduced during the B.Tech Student Orientation Program held at VIT on Wednesday. Harsha Vardhan, Satheesh Kumar, Sailesh Dontula (Alumnus VIT 2012 Mechanical Engineering) and Siva Kumar presented the check to Sekar Viswanathan, VIT Vice President.

The initiative will go beyond financial assistance by offering industry mentorship, business start-up guidance and leadership development opportunities. Support will also be provided to deserving student-athletes through training equipment and related assistance, the release said.
