
The Tamil Nadu government will launch the Hornbil initiative by establishing the Center for Perfection in Anamalai Tiger Reserve to protect its habitats, said the Minister of Forest K. Ponmuda in the legislative assembly on Friday.
Mr. Ponmuda, who announced new initiatives for nature and nature protection, said that endangered species such as the lion’s tails, Madras Hedgehog, Hyenas and Mahseer Fish, will be preserved with the budget of 1 crore assigned to the protection of habitats and the estimate of the population and community awareness programs. Bengali fox and jackal will be preferred for protection, he said.
The Minister announced that the Forest Ministry will conduct its first telemetric study to identify the Congregation Area of the Olive Ridley Turtle for 84 Lakh and organize 1,000 natural camps for school students for 2 crore.
To train youth leaders in the protection of wild animals, the state government will create prizes for community management and introduce a certificate program for 20,000 students in areas such as forest protection, census, forest fire management and managing conflicts to a person at 3 GBP crore.
The state will set up two new research centers at the Advanced Institute of Wildlife Conservation in Vandalur, Chennai, namely the Center for the Protection and Evolutionary Genetics and Center for Species, with an investment of 1.5 Crore. In Virudhunagar, Kallakurichi, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris and Megamalai, six new incubation centers for nature protection and Megamalai will be established.
The government also invests 5 GBP Crore to improve Kururrurrurroptti Zoo in Salem and Amirthi Zoo in Vellore and starts the Elite Power for the Chennai coast to ensure the marine biodiversity.
In order to resolve a human-life conflict, the Minister said the government would install a steel rope fence at the North Wildlife Sanctuary in Krishnagiri at the 31 GBP Crore price to create a quick reaction in Dindigul. In the Kannivadi series in Kannivadi, a 20 km suspended solar fence will also be installed to protect agricultural land from damage to wild animals.
The census and the assessment of the green space will be done in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tiruppur and Salem. Furthermore, the Crore 2 GBP will be assigned to revive degraded forests on the edge of Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Trichy and Coimbatore.
