After 3 Indian sailors die, Rubio tells Jaishankar all vessels to submit to US blockade in Strait of Hormuz | Today’s news

U.S. State Department Deputy Chief Spokesman Tommy Pigott said Saturday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that all commercial vessels should follow the orders of U.S. forces as they try to keep the peace in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a released statement, Pigott said: “US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar yesterday. The two leaders discussed recent events in the Strait of Hormuz. The minister stressed that all commercial vessels should immediately comply with the orders of US forces as they seek to maintain peace and security in the Strait. He stressed that violations of the illegal US blockade of oil shipments and the Irish Strait will not tolerate.”

The US State Department statement comes a day after S Jaishankar spoke to Rubio and filed a protest against the US Navy’s strikes in the Persian Gulf that killed three Indian sailors. After speaking with US Secretary of State Jaishankar in a post on X, he wrote: “I spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this evening. I reiterated India’s strong protest against the US Navy’s attacks in the Persian Gulf that killed three Indian sailors. Such deadly actions against commercial shipping are not justified.”

Earlier this week, three vessels with Indian crew members were attacked off the coast of Oman and three sailors lost their lives in one of the incidents on Wednesday.

This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
