Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) general secretary P. Abdul Samad said on Friday (May 22, 2026) that the party will fight only on its own symbol in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly, assembly and local body elections.

The decision was part of resolutions passed by the party’s high-level committee following the 2026 election results that returned a fragmented seat in the State Assembly.

The MMK won two seats from the DMK – Manapparai and Nagappatinam – and contested both on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol. This has prevented the party from exploring any post-poll alliance as it is tied to the direction of the DMK whip.

While thanking the DMK and its leaders for their support during the elections, the party also congratulated TVK founder and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on taking charge of the new government.

The party urged the government to “formulate and implement plans to take Tamil Nadu on the path of development, continue the social systems established by the previous DMK government and promote and protect all human rights, including the rights of minority communities”.
