Liverpool manager Arne Slot has broken his silence on Mohamed Salah’s social media rant

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has responded to Mohamed Salah’s controversial post on social media, insisting Liverpool are focused on securing Champions League qualification despite growing tensions between them.

Ahead of Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season against Brentford at Anfield, Slot refused to confirm whether Salah would play in what could be his last home appearance for the club. The Egyptian forward is expected to leave Liverpool this summer after nine years at the club.

Salah sparked an online debate after criticizing Liverpool’s recent performances and Sloto’s tactical approach following last week’s defeat to Aston Villa. In his post, Salah appeared to call for a return to the high-intensity style associated with former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Despite reports that several Liverpool players liked Salah’s post on social media, Slot dismissed suggestions that it had influenced the dressing room.

“I never say anything about team selection. I don’t think it’s that important how I feel about it. The important thing is that we qualify for the Champions League on Sunday and I will prepare Mo and the whole team in the best possible way for the game,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference.

The Liverpool manager admitted he was disappointed with the team’s performances this season and said changes will be necessary going forward.

“I was very disappointed after our loss against Villa because a win would have secured us Champions League qualification, which we didn’t get. Now we have one game that is vital for us as a club. We both want the best for the club, we both want the club to be successful and that’s the main goal,” he said.

Slot also defended his footballing philosophy when responding to suggestions that Salah is unhappy with his current style of play.

“I have to find a way to develop this team now and definitely in the summer and next season to be successful again and to play the brand of football that I like. And if I like it, the fans will like it because I didn’t like the way we played this season,” added Slot.

The Dutchman insisted he and Salah shared the same ambition to bring Liverpool back into title contention.

“I think Mo was really happy with the style we played last year because it led to us winning the league. Football has changed, football has evolved but we both want the best for Liverpool and that is to compete for trophies,” said Slot.

The situation surrounding Salah’s future has heated up in recent weeks after reports of a breakdown in his relationship with Sloto following his omission from the line-up against Inter Milan earlier this season.

When asked how Liverpool players interacted with Salah’s post on social media, Slot played down its significance.

“Social media came when I was a bit older, so as people know I’m not really into it. I don’t really know what exactly it means when you post ‘Like’. What I do know, and that’s my world, is seeing them train and compared to the rest of the season I haven’t seen anything else,” he said.

Liverpool need a single point against Brentford on Sunday to seal qualification for next season’s Champions League, with uncertainty continuing over Salah’s final appearance at Anfield.
