Govt. nod for the 190 billion water treatment plant in Aluva

The state government has given administrative sanction for the construction of a new 190 million liters per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Aluva to address drinking water shortage in Kochi Corporation and surrounding municipalities and grama panchayats.

The water resources department has given an administrative sanction of ₹523 crore for the project. It will be implemented as part of a project to improve urban water supply in Kerala, with the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Wednesday.

The new plant is expected to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water to Kochi Corporation, Aluva, Eloor, Thrikkakara, Kalamassery and Maradu municipalities as well as Keezhmad, Edathala, Choornikkara, Njarackal, Elamkunnapuzha, Mulavukorbalam, Kubalawan Nayaramal Chellanam, Kumbalangi and Kadamakudy grama panchayats.

The completion of the project is planned within 15 months. It will be built on 1.57 hectares near the existing water treatment plant in Aluva, the CMO said.
