Loco pilot reportedly stops Indore-Mhow DEMU to buy samosas; Railway orders probe after viral video | Today’s news

A video has surfaced showing the locomotive pilot of the Indore-Mhow DEMU train in Madhya Pradesh allegedly stopping the train to buy samosas from a shop located beside the tracks. PTI reported.

Visuals showing the train allegedly being stopped for the purchase of refreshments have gone viral on social media, prompting the railways to order an inquiry into the matter, the report said.

The railways are stepping in after the clip went viral

According to PTIThe video’s rapid spread online drew attention to the locomotive pilot’s behavior and raised questions about whether the train had been stopped without operational justification. The railways has since ordered an inquiry into the incident, the report said, although further details on the outcome of the inquiry are awaited.

An unscheduled stop by a train crew for personal reasons is considered a violation of standard operating procedure by the railroad, as any deviation from scheduled train stops is expected to be supported by an operational or safety reason. Locomotive drivers are required to remain in place for the duration of the train, except in situations warranting a justified stop, and any delay in this regard usually warrants inspection and disciplinary action under the Railway Rules.

The viral nature of the clip again drew attention to how quickly such videos, often shot by passersby near railroad tracks, can prompt swift administrative action once they get online.

Indian Railways has ordered similar investigations in the past after footage of unusual or unauthorized behavior by train staff surfaced on social media platforms, underscoring how rail staff are subject to scrutiny in an era where near-constant civic logging of public infrastructure has become the norm.

The outcome of the railways’ investigation has not been released and it remained unclear what action, if any, would be taken against the locomotive pilot in question if the allegations were substantiated. PTI the report said.
