Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: 7 dead, over 15 injured as bus hits truck, catches fire in Rajasthan Dausa | Today’s news

At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured after a passenger bus rammed into a truck and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai highway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district early Wednesday morning.

According to the police, after hitting the trailer, the bus lost control and fell into a ravine, after which a fire broke out in the rear of the vehicle.

5 dead on the spot

Dausa Superintendent of Police Piyush Dixit told PTI that five victims were burnt to death while two others succumbed to severe head injuries.

“The bus was traveling from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand to Indore in Madhya Pradesh when it collided with a truck in front of it on the expressway,” he said.

The passengers were sleeping

According to the police, the bus was operated by Indore-based Hans Travels.

Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses told ANI that the impact was so strong that passengers sleeping on upper bunks were thrown down and several of them were seriously injured.

“Most of the passengers were in deep sleep when the accident happened, so they had little time to react,” Anita Soni, who was traveling in the bus, told ANI.

Injuries to treat: Officials

Some passengers managed to escape on their own before the fire spread, officials said.

While the injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital, several critically injured passengers have been referred to higher medical centers for advanced care, ANI reported.

The injured were rescued and taken to Dausa District Hospital for treatment, the SP said.

Police, firemen and local administration teams went to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The fire was later brought under control, police said.
