Satwiksiraj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are gunning for a third title when they take on Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin in the men’s doubles final of the BWF Thailand Open 2026 on Sunday, May 17 at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
The Indian duo reached their first final in quite some time, with their previous title appearance coming at the China Masters in September 2025.
Sunday’s competition also presents a big chance for Satwik and Chirag to end their long wait for a BWF World Tour title. Their last triumph on the circuit came at the Thailand Open itself in 2024.
Bangkok holds a special place in the hearts of the former world number one pair, especially after their outstanding contribution to India’s landmark Thomas Cup win in 2022. They also went on to win the Thailand Open every time they reached the final.
However, their journey to this year’s final was not smooth. The top-seeded Indians were pushed hard by Indonesians Muh Putra Erwiansyah and Bagas Maulana in the previous rounds, losing a match before bouncing back strongly to seal victory.
Since then, they have found their rhythm in the tournament, defeating Malaysia’s Haikal and Goontinga in the round of 16 and Japan’s Nomura and Shimogami in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively.
The semi-final against Fei and Izzudin of Malaysia was a test of their character and resilience and the Indian duo came out on top.
With all the chatter behind them and a firm focus on the court, can the Indian duo pull off the title?
