A city-based realtor, GK Shankar, has allegedly received ransom calls from a person who identifies himself as ‘Vicky Shetty’ and claims to be an underworld agent.
Vicky Shetty is a Mangaluru-based underworld agent reportedly based abroad and former aide to another underworld agent Ravi Poojary arrested by the Karnataka Police in 2020.
According to sources, Mr. Shankar received the first call a few days ago. During the conversation, the caller allegedly claimed to be Vicky Shetty and demanded a ransom from the real estate agency. The caller also allegedly threatened to kill Shankar during his son’s wedding ceremony if the demanded money was not paid.
Shankar initially ignored the calls, believing it to be a prank. However, after repeated threats, he turned to the police and filed a formal complaint. Based on a tip, the police registered the case and started an investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the threats were made through internet calls received on Shankar’s mobile phone. Police are now working to trace the origin of the calls and identify the accused behind the blackmail attempt.
