Vignan University in Vadlamudi, Chebrolu mandal has been sanctioned 20 new government units of National Service Scheme by NSS state cell under Andhra Pradesh higher education department, Vice Chancellor KV Krishna Kishore said on Saturday.
He said the official orders were issued by NSS State Officer M. Sudhakar after reviewing the university’s infrastructure, student strength, faculty support and readiness to implement NSS activities.
Professor Krishna Kishore said the new units will provide more opportunities for students to participate in community service and social programs. He noted that the NSS certification carries additional weight in admissions to higher education and job opportunities.
He said NSS activities help students develop leadership skills, discipline, teamwork and social responsibility. The university plans to expand programs related to rural development, environmental protection, Swachh Bharat initiatives, health camps, blood donation drives, literacy campaigns and disaster management activities through the newly sanctioned units.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that the institutions were recently advised to open zero balance dedicated subsidiary accounts for transparent management of NSS funds as per the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Vignan Educational Institutions chairman Lavu Rattaiah, registrar PMV Rao and faculty members welcomed the sanction and expressed hope that the students would actively participate in the service programmes.
