Members of the Samagra Shiksha Contract and Outsourcing Employees Federation staged a protest on Friday (May 15, 2026) demanding that the government address their long-pending issues.
Members of the federation said nearly 60% of the workforce in government schools, including teachers, ayahs, hostel staff, sweepers, gardeners, security guards and other support staff, serve on contract, outsourcing or fee basis. They claimed that despite providing services for several years, many workers continued to face job insecurity and receive low wages.
The protesting employees demanded regularization of their services and amalgamation of Samagra Shiksha employees into the education department, implementation of personnel policy, introduction of “equal pay for equal work in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict, revision of salaries and grant of service benefits including pension fund, ESI and pensions, increase in retirement age to 62 years and measures to ensure job security.”
Federation officials have warned that if the government does not respond positively to their demands, they will intensify their agitation. They said that employees across districts should unite and participate in future protest programmes.
