Farmers protest against pending compensation for Visakhapatnam data center project

Farmers who lost their land for the proposed data center at Tarluvada in Anandapuram mandal staged a protest outside the Tahsildar office on Tuesday, demanding that the state government and the project authorities honor the assurances given to them.

They submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar demanding immediate payment of outstanding compensation to 520 affected farmers, including agents. They also demanded permanent employment for one member of each displaced family, allotment of land and construction of a commercial complex for Dalit farmers as promised earlier.

Protesters urged authorities to prioritize local residents in construction-related jobs, remove restrictions imposed by security officials on access to their remaining farmland, and release an environmental impact assessment report on the proposed data center.

The CPI(M) extended support to the agitation and demanded that the long-standing issues be resolved without further delay. Party officials B Gangarao, a former corporator, and RSN Murthy, Bheemili divisional secretary, said repeated representations failed to elicit a response. They warned that the party would obstruct the construction of the data center if the demands were not met within a fortnight.
