The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government announce a compensation of ₹50,000 for each family of six fishermen who remain missing after a fishing boat accident off the Visakhapatnam coast.
A CPI(M) delegation led by District Secretary M Jaggu Naidu visited the affected families at the fishing port and expressed concern over the delay in the search for the missing fishermen, four days after the accident. Addressing the media, he asked the central and state governments to intensify the search and find the missing fishermen as soon as possible.
He said families, including pregnant women, mothers with infants and young children, are in dire straits as the fate of their loved ones remains unknown. He demanded that the government should provide an interim financial assistance of ₹1,000 to each affected family at a time, on humanitarian grounds.
Mr. Jaggu Naidu also asked the government to provide free education to the children of the missing fishermen and sanction permanent housing to the affected families, many of whom live in rented houses. He said elected representatives and officials have so far offered only assurances, without a firm statement on compensation, and called for immediate action by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the district administration.
