Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi have been hiked by ₹2 per kg on Friday as per retail rate of ₹77.09 to ₹79.09 per kg. The increase comes after oil marketing companies (OMCs), facing mounting losses due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia and higher global energy prices, raised petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 per liter each earlier in the day. The revised fuel prices came into force across the country immediately.
The latest revision follows a similar move by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which increased CNG prices across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by ₹2 per kg. “From midnight today, the price of CNG will increase by ₹2 per kg, while the revised rate at ₹84 per kg in and around the city,” an MGL official said on Thursday evening.
The increase in CNG prices is expected to put further pressure on public transport costs. Soon after the hike, autorickshaw unions in Mumbai demanded a hike in fares and sought an increase of Re 1 from the current basic fare ₹26.
