The Malkajgiri traffic police on Thursday (May 14, 2026) registered more than 1400 cases during a special enforcement drive against violation of number plates and illegal inscriptions on vehicles across the authority.
According to police, enforcement teams were directing traffic at major intersections and busy stretches.
During the drive, the police registered 1,468 cases related to license plate violations and 26 cases related to special inscriptions on vehicles. Violators were fined a total of ₹3.37 crore.
Officials said 87 repeat offender motorists were also charged with third-time use of irregular license plates and operating vehicles without license plates.
Police teams checked vehicles for compliance with High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) standards, including correct font, size, spacing and visibility. Vehicles with altered, obscured or non-standard license plates were registered in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The traffic police said incorrect number plates cause difficulties in vehicle identification, especially for tracking and enforcement, and can affect road safety.
Police have advised motorists to use only authorized HSRP registration plates and avoid modifications or decorative modifications. Officials warned that repeat offenders would face prosecution and legal action.
The police said such drives would continue regularly to ensure compliance with traffic rules and improve road safety across the authority.
