NEW DELHI: Announcing India’s squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka unleashed a wave of praise on Thursday, with Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka leading the tributes for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Badoni.BCCI has named Tilak Varma as the captain of the 15-man squad for the June one-day tri-series involving India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. The matches will be played in Dambulla, followed by two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A in Galle.
Goenka’s post focuses on Sooryavanshi
Soon after the team was announced, Goenka took to social media to celebrate the selection of Sooryavanshi and Badoni and highlight the teenager’s meteoric rise.“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection in the India A team should be celebrated for many reasons, the biggest being how far the young man has come in such a short space of time. From his IPL debut last year to scoring 175 in the U19 World Cup final and being named Player of the Tournament, the country has watched in awe,” Goenka wrote.He added: “In just one year he has shown incredible talent, fearlessness and a desire to keep improving. Glad to see Ayush Badoni in the team too. Congratulations to both of them. Make India proud.”Young stars rewardedAt just 15, Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the brightest young names in the domestic circuit since breaking into the IPL with Rajasthan Royals. His aggressive batting and performances at the youth level made him one of the standout players in the team.Meanwhile, Badoni is featuring regularly for Lucknow Super Giants and is getting another opportunity to make it to the senior national team.Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Anshul Kamboj are also in the squad, underscoring the selectors’ emphasis on nurturing the next generation ahead of the busy international cycle.
