
GITAM Deemed to be University will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) components in its pharmacy degree programs from the academic year 2026-2027 in accordance with the latest Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) guidelines.
Director of the GITAM School of Pharmacy prof. Speaking at a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, L. Srinivas said the initiative aims to equip students to meet the demands of the increasingly data-driven healthcare industry. He said the revised curriculum will include specialized modules focusing on formulation development, molecular modeling and drug safety using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools.
A key feature of the updated Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) syllabus is the introduction of a subject titled “Artificial Intelligence and Python Programming for Pharmacy” which aims to strengthen students’ computational and analytical skills alongside pharmaceutical sciences.
Professor Srinivas said the university strives to produce graduates capable of working in technology-enabled healthcare environments. He added that the School of Pharmacy continues to maintain its National Board of Accreditation (NBA) status and consistently ranks among the top 35 institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) among nearly 5,000 pharmacy colleges in the country.
