A woman was allegedly raped by the driver and conductor of a sleeper bus inside the vehicle in Delhi, police sources said on Thursday (May 14, 2026).
Two accused have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place on the night of May 11, sources said.
The Delhi Police is yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Based on the woman’s statement, an FIR under sections 64(1) (rape), 70(1) (gang-rape) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Rani Bagh police station on May 12, sources said.
“The accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway,” a police source said, adding that the bus has been secured.
According to police sources, the woman was returning home after working at a factory. When she reached the B-Block bus stand at Saraswati Vihar, she saw one of the accused standing at the door of the bus and asked him about the time. The accused then allegedly dragged her into the bus and raped her.
Outer District Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Singh said the allegations about the bus plying around the city are false. “One of the accused himself made the call and when senior officials reached the spot, their escape was out of the question. The victim was immediately medically examined and then an FIR was registered,” he said.
The opposition AAP compared the incident to the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-murder case and said it was a “great shame”. In a post on X, Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the incident.
“Big shame,” Nirbhaya repeated. A 30-year-old woman was picked up in a bus at night on the pretext of asking time. Then she was raped by several people in a moving bus for about 2 hours. The bus was still moving in a 7 km stretch of Rani Bagh area of Delhi,” he said.
