The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday released the results of the Class 12 board examinations, which saw a slight drop in the overall pass percentage in 2026 compared to last year.
The national ID percentage is 85.20%, which is a decrease of 3.19% from last year’s 88.39%. A total of 17,68,968 students appeared in the CBSE Class 12 exams.
Again, the girls outperformed the boys. “Girls’ pass rate stood at 88.86%, outperforming boys (82.13%) by a significant margin of 6.73%,” CBSE said in its official report.
No merit list
The board maintained its tradition of not publishing the official merit list to curb “unhealthy competition”, it said.
More than 94,000 students scored above 90%, with more than 17,000 candidates scoring above 95%.
Among the regions, Trivandrum tops the rankings with a staggering 95.62% pass rate, closely followed by Chennai and Bengaluru. Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh has the lowest pass percentage at 72.43%.
As many as 1.63 lakh students have been placed in the departmental category or those who want to improve their score in one subject can appear for the supplementary exams scheduled on July 15, CBSE said.
The commission will soon release the time table for students who want to apply for mark verification or photocopy of their graded answer sheets.
