Delhi HC directs restoration of X Cockroach Janta Party account, quashes Centre’s order | Today’s news
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the restoration of the social media account of the Cockroach Janta Party and lifted the Centre’s blocking order, LiveLaw reported.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed CJP founder Abhijit Dipke’s petition saying that the central government’s primary interest was no longer relevant as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was over.
Appearing for the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the government’s main concern behind blocking the party’s account was that its posts could cause confusion and unrest among students and parents during the NEET exam. The court stated that since the end of the exam this concern no longer exists and therefore granted the plea.
Reacting to the development, CJP founder Dipke wrote in a post on X: “In a big win for the Cockroach Janta Party, the Delhi High Court has ordered the unblocking of our original X account. It’s a big win not only for CJP and the movement, but also for freedom of expression and digital rights. We will continue to raise the voice of the youth online and offline.”
However, at the time of publication, CJP’s official account on X remains suspended.
This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
