Delhi High Court sentences YouTuber Gulshan Pahuj to 6 months in jail for calling judiciary a ‘dictatorship’ | Today’s news
The Delhi High Court sentenced the YouTuber to six months in jail after finding him guilty of criminal contempt for “personal attacks” on some judicial officers and “lowering” the dignity of the judicial system.
YouTuber, Gulshan Pahuja was also fined Rs 2000 in each contempt matter by Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja in the Delhi HC.
YouTuber found guilty of contempt
Pahuja, who runs a YouTube channel called ‘Fight 4 Judicial Reforms’, has landed himself in trouble with the Delhi HC over allegations he leveled against judicial officials in a recent case.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Delhi HC observed that the content on the Pahuja channel was not protected as “freedom of expression” under the Constitution.
The court ruled that while a disgruntled litigant may sometimes vent his frustration with “uncharitable remarks” that should be “taken in stride”, in this case Pahuja was not venting his frustration as a fair criticism and his intent was only to scandalize and tarnish the image of court officials and the judiciary.
‘He showed no remorse’
The bench said it had shown no remorse or suggested a “course correction” and his non-punishment could embolden him.
“In fact, he claims that what he did was with the intention of improving the judicial system. In fact, he is compounding his contempt by making further scandalous submissions before this court, and thus he is clearly unrepentant and deserving of no mercy,” the court noted.

“No hope of justice”
While hearing sentencing submissions, the court noted that Pahuja had made further remarks against the judicial system, saying “adaalaton ki manmarzi badhti jaa rahi hai”.
Pahuja also told the court that he had “no hope of getting justice”.
“The courts are getting stricter. I didn’t come here hoping for justice. Rigidity also means dictatorship.”
Amicus Curiae, in the case, Harsh Prabhakar also informed the court that Pahuja continued to upload videos against judicial officials despite an earlier restraining order issued by the court in May 2025.
He argued that the mere imposition of a fine would be insufficient from the point of view of the facts of the case.

Sentence suspended for 60 days
When Pahuja was found guilty of criminal contempt of court, the court sentenced him to six months of simple imprisonment on 16 May.
“We are of the view that these cases call for the imposition of the maximum sentence for the judge. We therefore impose simple imprisonment of six months along with a fine of Rs 2,000 on Mr. Gulshan Pahuja in each of these cases. The sentence will run concurrently in these cases,” the court ordered on May 16.
However, as Pahuja intended to challenge the decision, the court stayed the sentence for 60 days so that he could approach the Supreme Court.
The bench directed that in the absence of a protection order from the high court, he would have to surrender before the chief secretary after the said deadline.
