The 12th May Sahitya Mela will be held at RN Shetty Hall in Hubballi on 16th and 17th May.
This year’s theme is “Attack on Constitutional Democracy”.
Literary festival organizer Basavaraj Sulibhavi said it is aimed at bringing writers, thinkers, activists and citizens together to discuss the issue.
The event will be jointly organized by various literary, cultural and social organizations to raise awareness and stimulate collective action in defense of democratic ideals.
“The event aims to highlight growing concerns about the state of democratic values in India and the challenges faced by the Constitution. The Mela seeks to promote dialogue on issues such as equality, justice, freedom and social harmony that form the basis of a democratic system. The Constitution presents a vision of inclusiveness and equal rights for all citizens. However, recent socio-political developments, including cultural intolerance and divisiveness, raise serious questions about its implementation and distribution.” these concerns and explore ways to protect democratic principles,” he said.
Organizing committee member Mahesh Pattar said the program will include a series of panel discussions, seminars, poetry sessions, storytelling and cultural activities.
An exhibition of books and art exhibitions will be organized.
Activists and intellectuals like former Bombay High Court judge BG Kolse Patil, former judge H Nagamohan Das, former bureaucrat V Balasubramanian, writers Kum Veerabhadrappa, Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy, Dinesh Amin Mattu, Banjagere Jayaprakash and other social activists from Rasim Delayy SR of Raassoly SR and others from Raassoly I across the country are expected to participate and share their views.
Writers and poets from Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will participate, he said.
