Health services are likely to be affected in Tripura in view of the strike called by the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists on May 20. They have three main demands — stop the online sale of drugs; stop deep discounts from corporate-run industry; and stop the sale of counterfeit drugs.
The Tripura Chemists and Druggists Association, which is affiliated to the national body, said on Sunday (May 10, 2026) that it will join the strike on May 20 and around 3,000 pharmacies in Tripura will remain closed. They regretted the inconvenience that people may face due to the strike.
Online drug sales and deep discounts are destroying small and medium-sized pharmacies, threatening the employment of millions, industry sources said.
Meanwhile, the State Health and Family Welfare Office and the State Drug Enforcement Administration have reportedly taken measures to contain the effects of the strike.
