Mock exercises are essential to improve inter-departmental coordination and ensure effective response to disasters such as floods, industrial accidents and forest fires, State Revenue (Disaster Management) Minister D Harichandana said on Thursday.
Addressing officials from various departments and district administrations via video conference on the proposed table-top exercise scheduled for May 15, followed by state-level mock exercises across districts on May 18, she said similar exercises conducted in 2025 have proved useful in enabling faster and coordinated response during emergencies.
Director General of Telangana Fire Services Vikram Singh Mann said that nearly 60 departments and central agencies will participate in the exercise on May 18. He said the 2026 flood-related mock drills would be held in 13 districts, while industrial accident drills would cover five districts and forest fire drills in four districts. He ordered the relevant departments to make the necessary arrangements for the smooth running of the exercise.
NDMA Principal Consultant Major General Sudhir Behl (retd), who participated virtually from New Delhi, gave a presentation on the roles and responsibilities of central and state agencies during disasters.
Senior officials from Fire Services, NDRF, SDRF, CISF, CRPF, Army, Health, Forestry, Industry and other departments attended the meeting.
