
A 34-year-old woman was found dead after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband with a dumbbell at their residence in Fatehnagar’s Shivashankar Colony on Tuesday (May 5).
The accused Chandra Banu Samal (39) was arrested by the Sanathnagar police in connection with the death of his wife Sasmita Samal (34). The couple along with their children Chandan (12) and Chandini (9) had been living in the locality for the past year. They are natives of Jajpur district in Odisha.
According to the police, the incident took place around 8:00 pm when Chandra Banu allegedly suspected his wife of talking to unknown persons. He allegedly hit her on the head with a barbell during an argument.
Sasmita suffered severe bleeding injuries and lost consciousness. She was initially taken to BBR Hospital and later referred to Gandhi Hospital for further treatment. She died during treatment on Wednesday, May 6 around three o’clock in the morning.
The Sanathnagar police have registered a case of murder and have started an investigation into the incident. Further investigations are underway.
