
The India Meteorological Department has issued fresh weather warnings for several states, predicting thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds in large parts of the country over the next few days.
At least 13 states are expected to experience significant weather activity, with conditions ranging from heavy rain and hail to gusty winds and soaring temperatures, according to the latest forecast. The weather agency also warned that a fresh western disturbance is likely to hit northwest India between May 10 and 12 and may cause widespread thunderstorms and winds of up to 40 to 60 km/h.

States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh are expected to witness rains and thunderstorms in the coming days. South India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in the next week.
Thunderstorm warnings for eastern and northeastern states
The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall over parts of the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. Similar conditions are expected in Sikkim and the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal.
West Bengal in particular may witness severe thunderstorms on May 9 with speeds of 70 kmph forecast in some districts. Hail is also likely in parts of Bihar, Vidarbha and Telangana, while states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand remain vulnerable to lightning strikes and strong winds.
Delhi is likely to get warmer before the weather changes
Dry weather returned to Delhi after days of thunderstorms and rain earlier this week. The state capital is now expected to witness a gradual rise in temperatures, with the mercury likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius by Friday.
Private forecasting agency Skymet Weather said a fresh western disturbance could activate around May 10, though its exact impact on Delhi-NCR is still being assessed.
The IMD has predicted mainly clear skies with cloud cover for the next few days. Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius between May 8 and 12, while minimum temperatures may be between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The recent spell of rain and hail between May 3 and 5 brought temporary relief from the heat in the Delhi-NCR region leading to more pleasant weather conditions.
Uttar Pradesh braces for rain, strong wind
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, witnessed rain and thundershowers on Wednesday morning. The IMD has forecast more thunderstorms and lightning across the state till May 7 along with winds of 50 to 70 kmph.
Cities like Lucknow, Varanasi and Meerut are expected to experience cloudy skies and light showers by evening, which will offer some relief from the rising temperatures.
Rain Forecast for Bihar, Uttarakhand
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for several districts in Bihar between May 7 and 10. Cities including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur are likely to experience light rain accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds.
Although humidity may remain high during the day, precipitation is expected to bring temperatures down slightly.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also expected to witness changing weather conditions in the next two days. Light to moderate rain with thundershowers has been forecast over hilly areas including Nainital, Pithoragarh and Chamoli.
Himachal may see spell of fresh rain, Rajasthan faces heat wave
In Himachal Pradesh, the impact of the approaching Western Disturbance is likely to be felt between May 11 and 12. The IMD has predicted rain and cold winds in hill stations like Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala.
At the same time, parts of Rajasthan may experience contrasting weather conditions. While eastern districts including Jaipur, Kota and Udaipur could witness light rain and gusty winds, western districts like Jaisalmer and Bikaner are likely to remain in intense heat conditions.
The IMD has warned that heatwave conditions may develop in parts of western Rajasthan between May 9 and 11.
