Bengaluru is known for two things – pleasant weather and infamous traffic. While social media is full of rants about the city’s endless traffic woes, one woman recently revealed that driving 15 km costs ₹1,200. She added that it took 3 hours to reach the destination.
Bengaluru fare issue
A user from Bengaluru took to Instagram and shared that the incident happened to her boyfriend who paid ₹1200 for a 3 hour drive. Her post shocked people on the internet.
A person with user ID @sanya.unfiltered said, “I didn’t expect this from Bangalore,” adding in complete shock, “Kal meri friend ne 15 km k liye ₹1200 diye autowale ko (Yesterday my friend paid ₹1200 for a 15 km drive)!”
“Itne me toh ghar ka ration do baar aa jayega (With this much money we could buy household food twice),” she remarked.
The user continued to joke about the rising fares in the city. Compared to those who move to Silicon Valley in India to study, she said, “Isiliye mai Bengaluru k barish ko romantise nahi kr pa rahi hu. Kiuki yaha violin nahi horns bajte ha (I am unable to romanticize the rains of Bengal because here only traffic horns can be heard instead of film music).
3 hours journey home in Bengaluru
She also talked about the struggle of finding a ride in the city, something that many on social media complain about. “Ek ride book karne me itna snaha lag jata hai jitna college admission me nahi laga tha. Humara kariera bane na bane, ye autowale ka toh pakka ban raha hai (Booking one ride takes more effort than getting into college. Whether our careers take off or not, these auto drivers will definitely achieve theirs),” she concluded.
Her caption further hinted at Bengaluru’s traffic woes. It read: “Took her 3 hours to get home (crying emoticon face) Paid 1.2000 just so the car driver wouldn’t abandon her in the middle.”
Netizens react
In response to her now-viral post, many in town found her relevant. Among them, a user wrote in the comments: “So many fares to pay.”
Another described the incident as ‘trauma’.
Someone else suggested: “Book a taxi, it’s better (sic).”
The user is a 22-year-old company employee who has often shared insights from her life in Bengaluru. Talking about traffic in Bengaluru, earlier in the set she said, “Bangalore me office jane se bada kaam office tak jana hai (In Bangalore, getting to the office is a bigger task than going to work alone).
“It’s hard to get a ride in Bengaluru, and even if you do manage to get one, the price makes you feel like you’re better off taking a day off. I spend half my life on the road.”
