Two contradictory things happened Congress in the last round of parliamentary elections. While this is a warning sign for the party, reflecting its inability to read the tea leaves in Assam or smell the coffee in Tamil Nadu, at the national level it helps the party establish itself as the single node of any challenge to the BJP.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached out to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Joseph C. Vijay to congratulate him on his “magnificent” victory. “This mandate reflects the growing voice of the youth which cannot and will not be ignored,” he said in a post on X. Congress is ahead by five seats in Tamil Nadu and TVK is 12 seats short of reaching the majority mark in the state.
