
UDF workers celebrate the victory of their candidate VP Sajeendran in Kunnathunadu Assembly constituency on Monday.
Despite an intense three-cornered contest, VP Sajeendran wrested back the Kunnathunadu constituency, which is reserved for the Scheduled Caste, for the United Democratic Front (UDF), securing an impressive victory for his third term as a legislator.
In a constituency known for tight margins, Mr. Sajeendran defeated CPI(M) sitting MLA PV Sreenijin by a record margin of 21,283 votes. Both got 70,292 and 49,009 votes respectively, while 20-something candidate Babu Divakaran also put up a tough fight with 40,221 votes.
