A sudden summer gale swept through Thrissur district on Saturday night, leaving a trail of damage to houses, power lines and crops while disrupting daily life and festival events. Strong winds uprooted trees, snapped power lines and poles and caused widespread power outages that subsequently affected water supplies in several local authorities.
The worst affected areas were in the Irinjalakuda area. Uprooted trees damaged transformers, power poles and overhead lines in many places, throwing large parts of the area into darkness. Officials said recovery efforts are underway, although a full assessment of the losses has not yet been completed.
