Jannik Sinner strengthened his credentials as one of the top contenders to win the French Open after securing the Madrid Open title. On Monday, May 3, the world number one defeated Alexander Zverev in the final 6:1, 6:2 in just 57 minutes.
With the win, Sinner became the first man in history to win five consecutive Masters titles. He is also the first player ever to claim the first four Masters tournaments of a season. Sinner, who has won 13 consecutive sets, nine straight matches and 65 consecutive service games, is increasingly dangerous ahead of Roland Garros.
The Italian star has now won 28 consecutive Masters matches, along with 56 of his last 58 sets at the level. Sinner has also won 45 of his last 47 games and has shown remarkable consistency.
“I started the match very well, I broke straight away. He didn’t play his best tennis today so I just tried to go on the front foot and of course I’m very happy with the level I’m playing. Unbelievable to win another title like that, it means a lot to me. It was another unbelievable tournament,” Sinner said after the match.
Sinner already has eight of the nine Masters 1000 titles, only missing out on the Italian Open in Rome. The 24-year-old now has the opportunity to complete the Career Golden Masters on home soil at the 2026 tournament, which starts next week. He is aiming to join Novak Djokovic as the only player to reach the Career Golden Masters.
