After introducing 10-12% cuts to international flights in April and May, Air India is preparing for further cuts in June and July at a time of soaring fuel prices and longer flight routes that have increased operating costs and hit profitability.
“The airspace and jet fuel price situation remains extremely challenging, so we have no choice but to further adjust plans for June and July,” Air India CEO Campbell Wilson told employees in an internal communication.
This, he said, was on top of the existing cuts imposed for April and May as the operation of many international flights “became unprofitable”.
