World number one Jannik Sinner continued his incredible run after qualifying for the Madrid Open final. On Friday, May 1, the Italian star defeated Arthur Fils 6:2, 6:4 to advance to the championship match. Sinner also became the youngest player to reach the finals of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events.
Sinner broke the record set by the legendary Novak Djokovic, who set the mark in 2012. He also became the third man in history to reach the finals of the first four Masters 1000 events in a season, following Roger Federer in 2006 and Rafael Nadal in 2011.

Against the Fils in the semifinals, Sinner once again demonstrated his ability to dictate plays with a quick strike of the ball and an accurate return. The straight sets win extended his exceptional form from 2026, during which he has already won multiple Masters 1000 titles and built a season-long winning streak.

His performance in Madrid was also notable for his mental toughness, especially in moments of pressure, where he kept breaking serves at key moments.
“I tried my best to be aggressive. I felt very comfortable in the return. He started serving better in the second set, so it was more difficult. I’m very happy with my overall performance today. I’m trying to play the best tennis I can at the moment. Today was a very good day at the office. But I knew before the match that he’s one of the best players in the world right now,” Sinner said after the match.
“I’m very happy to have played against him. It means a lot to me. He’s very good for tennis, for sports. I’m really happy for today’s performance,” Sinner added.
In the final, Sinner will face the winner of the second semi-final between Alexander Zverev and Alexander Blockx.
