Four people were killed when an overcrowded car traveling from Palakonda to Sithampet in Parvathipuram-Manyam district overturned on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as the car driver Ramana and passengers Sravani, Shanti and Lakshmi. All of them belonged to Sithampet mandal in the district.
Up to 10 other occupants of the car suffered multiple injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The car overturned on the Ghat road in the agency area due to overcrowding of passengers. Many people traveling this route are forced to travel in overcrowded public transport vehicles – buses and cars are not readily available. In addition, due to the many turns and the poor condition of the road, accidents often occur here. Police have sent the bodies to Palakonda Area Hospital for post-mortem.
