The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday (April 28, 2026) said the Jammu and Kashmir government’s move to drop Urdu as eligibility for lower and middle posts in the revenue ministry was an “attack on culture and identity”.
PDP leader Iltija Mufti, who is also the daughter of party chairman Mehboob Mufti, said during a street protest in Srinagar, “Urdu is our weapon to express ourselves and a common unifier. However, removing Urdu from the revenue service is an attack on our culture, religion and identity,” Ms Mufti said.
