Virat Kohli may find giving speeches in schools tougher than dealing with a swinging yorker, but the Indian star gave students a great message as he launched another branch of his childhood coach’s academy.
Despite the rush in the IPL 2026 campaign, Kohli found some time to spend with students in Delhi after RCB win over DC on Monday, April 27. After the inauguration, Kohli addressed the students, reminding them how to respect the school environment and teachers and give their focus and attention to their goals as soon as possible.
“I’m not used to speaking in schools so it’s going to be a bit awkward for me because I moved away from the school environment a long time ago because of cricket and that’s what I’m going to talk about.”
“I understand the environment of the school. I went through the same process and phase that all you kids are now a part of. And I can share from my own experience how my focus and priority changed very early in my life,” Kohli said.
“I mean school is a place where you come to learn, you come to grow, you come to become better people.
“First of all, have respect and reverence for this environment. For your teachers, for the people who teach you. They give you a part of their life. It is very important to give them the respect and focus and attention that is required,” Kohli added.
‘BE HONEST TO YOUR DREAMS’
Opening up about his own journey with children, Kohli said he had to be honest with himself when he decided to take up cricket. The Indian star urged the students to be honest about their own dreams and pursue them with determination.
“I chose the sport very early in my life but it came from a very honorable place. I was very sure that I wanted to go ahead and pursue cricket and I had to be honest with myself, my family and also my teachers to tell them that this is the path I want to take,” said the former India captain.
“Be honest about your dreams, what you want to do, and go after that dream with absolute commitment. Only you will know if you are 100% honest or not.”
Recalling his association with the academy, Kohli said it has remained a significant part of his life and childhood and hopes students can learn a lot about the sport during their time there.
“I started training when I was eight years old and I still go to the academy whenever I have time. And it’s a big part of my childhood and I hope all the kids who come here to learn cricket will appreciate it, they can learn something at the academy. And I hope it will do wonders for the school and the cricket setup here,” said Kohli, only the best.
Kohli will next be in action when RCB take on GT in Ahmedabad on April 30.
