Panic gripped the residents of Nandini Layout in the early hours of April 27 after a major fire broke out in the Paying Guest (PG) accommodation, forcing about 50 female residents to jump out of the building to escape the flames.
The fire is said to have started around 12.40pm and is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short in a nearby LED signage warehouse. The warehouse used to store banners and LED screens was the first to catch fire. The flames quickly spread to the adjacent four-storey building housing the PG.
