Virat Kohli, Rajkumar Sharma NEW DELHI: Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli on Tuesday inaugurated a cricket academy run by his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. Kohli opened a branch of West Delhi Cricket Academy at DPS RK Puram in New Delhi. Rajkumar Sharma was present at the event.Kohli also spoke to the students during the inauguration and asked them to respect their learning space and focus on their goals.“Thank you for having me. I’m not used to speaking in schools so it’s going to be a bit awkward for me because I moved out of the school environment a long time ago because of cricket, and that’s what I’m going to talk about. I understand the school environment. I went through the same process and stage that all you kids are in right now,” Koh said.He said schools are meant for learning and personal development. “I mean school is where you come to learn, you come to grow, you come to become better people,” Kohli said.“First of all, have respect and reverence for this environment. For your teachers, for the people who teach you. They give you a part of their life. It is very important to give them the respect and focus and attention that is required,” Kohli added.“I chose sport very early in my life but it came from a very honest place. I was very sure that I wanted to go ahead and do cricket and I had to be honest with myself, my family and also my teachers to tell them that this is the path I want to take,” he said.Kohli also advised the students to be clear about their goals.“Be honest about your dreams, what you want to do, and go after that dream with absolute commitment. Only you will know if you are 100% honest or not.”

Which aspect of Kohli’s speech do you find most inspiring to students?
He said he started training at the academy at the age of eight and still attends when possible.“I started training when I was eight years old and I still go to the academy whenever I have time. And it’s a big part of my childhood and I hope that all the kids who come here to learn cricket will appreciate it, they can learn something from the academy. And I hope it will do wonders for the school and the cricket set-up here,” he told everyone, only the best.
