Congress on Monday (Apr 27, 2026) described as “shameful” the absence of a joint statement after last week’s BRICS+ meeting in the capital, saying India’s insistence on diluting the language on Israel and Palestine was hindering consensus among member countries.
In a post on X, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that India’s position was unacceptable to several BRICS+ members, leading to a meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys on 23-24. it was not possible to issue a joint communique in April.
