In a major shift away from long-cherished festive traditions, several parishes under the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Central Travancore have decided to forego fireworks this year. The decision comes in response to a call by Baselios Marthoma Mathews III Catholicos following the Mundathikode fireworks accident.
According to church authorities, the Orthodox Church of St. George in Puthuppally, one of the leading pilgrimage centers of the Malankara Orthodox Church, has decided to skip fireworks for this year’s annual celebration.
