I came to Raghu Rai before I got into photography.
As a young, 18-year-old no-nonsense boy shooting for a city magazine, more to finance a relationship than any artistic vocation, photography was a means to an end until his images began to interfere—first fleetingly, then completely. They didn’t just affect what I photographed, they changed what I thought a photograph could hold.
