15-year-old superstar Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sustained an injury in Rajasthan Royals’ home match against SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 25. In the fourth over of the second innings, Vaibhav felt some discomfort in his right thigh. He fell to the ground almost immediately and had to be carried off the ground by the Royals support staff.
Vaibhav looked in considerable pain as he limped off the pitch with both hands wrapped around the shoulders of his bat. Initially, it looked like Vaibhav had pulled his hamstring while running at cover, but it later emerged that the opener might have been suffering from severe cramps instead.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Vaibhav suffered from cramps as he bowled 14 overs in the Jaipur heat on Saturday. Vaibhav stayed at the crease for a total of 37 balls to hit his second hundred in the Indian Premier League.
Vaibhav completed his feat in just 36 balls, scoring the third fastest hundred in Indian Premier League history. The northern parts of India are currently going through a severe heat wave that has forced players in the Indian Premier League into painful spasms.
On Saturday, it looked like even Vaibhav’s young muscles were not immune to cramps as the player was unable to continue on the field after four overs in the second half of the innings.
WHY ARE THE PLAYERS CRIMINAL IN THE MOUNTAIN?
Players often cramp when playing in extreme heat because prolonged, high-intensity activity leads to rapid fluid loss, electrolyte imbalances, and muscle fatigue. In conditions like Jaipur’s 41 degrees Celsius, the body sweats profusely to regulate temperature, causing a significant loss of sodium, potassium and other essential minerals that help muscles function properly.
As fatigue sets in, circulation to the muscles becomes less efficient, and the repetitive, explosive movements of batting, running, and fielding increase stress on the muscle fibers. This also leads to the accumulation of metabolic byproducts such as lactic acid, especially when the body is pushed beyond its usual regenerative capacity. The combination of dehydration, electrolyte depletion, muscle overload and lactic acid build-up can cause sudden involuntary muscle contractions, resulting in cramping during a match.
