When you say first-time voters, they are usually people between the ages of 18 and 20. But in Konai village of Villupuram district, a couple in their 40s and 50s cast their votes for the first time on Thursday. Belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, Masi and Govindammal received their voter cards only recently and could vote for the first time.
“We applied earlier but never got it,” Mr Masi said. The couple, parents of four daughters, were also imprisoned for six years in forced labor at Vazhapadi in Salem district.
